Fall Flu vaccine target: Children..
According to reporting from the Washington POST,
School-age children will be a key target population for a pandemic flu vaccine in the fall, and they may be vaccinated at school in a mass campaign not seen since the polio epidemics of the 1950s
MORE FROM THE POST ARTICLE ..
Other sources, including SCHMUCKRAKER, reported that there is renewed worry about the safety of the vaccines coming in autumn, along with fears over whether Tamiflu is effective in controling swine// It's a marvelous night for a vaccine, with the stars up above in your eyes// A fantabulous night to make romance// Neath the swine flu October skies//
It's worth noting, as governments around the world increase the H1N1 scares, the flu itself has killed fewer people than the common flu virus..
USA TODAY says state and federal officials in the United States are coordinating their fall attack plans.. In April of this year TIME magazine wrote that Howard Markel, director of the Center for the History of Medicine at the University of Michigan and a historical consultant to the CDC on flu pandemics, said citizens still need to trust that the government is working for the greater good...

Swine flu: Obesity doesn't help, researchers say
Researchers described the cases of 10 patients at a Michigan hospital who were so ill they had to be put on ventilators. Three died. Nine of the 10 were obese, seven were severely obese, including two of the three who died.. H1N1 has killed close to 500 people globally, more than 200 in the United States alone.. The number hundreds of percent lower than what the seasonal flu kills per year.. no word on how many of the 500 were obese..

The dumbest internet craze ever (so far): The lying down game..

Thousands of photos are popping up online, Facebook, Myspace, and other social networking sites of people in weird places lying face down.. And that's it. Really, that's all.. More from Britain's DAILY MAIL of the newest fad to hit the net..
One person quotes in the article calls the game very liberating..

The sick story of the Burr Oak Cemetery gets worse...
Till's body and gravesite was not disturbed, though other bodies were dug up and their plots were resold.. However the desecration of Till's glass topped casket simply rusting away in a shack is a shock to hearts and minds around the world, especially African Americans that have long heralded Till's murder as one of the most important moments in the civil rights movement's history..
Emmitt Till was an African American young boy from Chicago murdered at the age of 14 in Mississippi in 1955--the suspects were acquitted but later admitted to the crime.. Six lawsuits were filed Friday by about a dozen families naming four employees criminally charged -- Towns, 49, Keith Nicks, 45, Terrence Nicks, 39, and Maurice Dailey, 59 -- and, in at least one case, company president Melvin Bryant...
After a day of searching, anger over the desecrated in Burr Oak..
Sheriff says he found bones..
..declared crime scene..

PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS: MEDVEDEV SHOWS OFF NEW GLOBAL CURRENCY COIN
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was speaking, and took from his pocket a coin he called "united future world currency"..
The words on the coin were an echo of George Orwell's book 1984: "unity in diversity" .. The future is now...
The idea of a global currency isn't new, but there is a renewed call for the idea with the global economic slump.. China has recently said the world should dump America's dollar in favor of a global bill.. And now, Medvedev shows off his "unity in diversity" coin for all to see..
And now, for better or worse (and I claim much worse) there is a march towards global currency.. The implosion of the dollar.. happening for us all to see while no one watches..
And interesting video of note on the topic from November 2008:

Justice Ginsburg Says She Originally Thought Roe v. Wade Was Designed to Limit 'Populations That We Don't Want to Have Too Many Of'!
Full story
She tells the New York TIMES SUNDAY: "Reproductive choice has to be straightened out" .. "There will never be a woman of means without choice anymore. That just seems to me so obvious. The states that changed their abortion laws before Roe (to make abortion legal) are not going to change back. So we have a policy that only affects poor women, and it can never be otherwise, and I don't know why this hasn't been said more often"
The transcript from the TIMES:
"Q. Are you talking about the distances women have to travel because in parts of the country, abortion is essentially unavailable, because there are so few doctors and clinics that do the procedure? And also, the lack of Medicaid for abortions for poor women?
Justice Ginsburg: Yes, the ruling about that surprised me. Frankly, I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don't want to have too many of. So that Roe was going to be then set up for Medicaid funding for abortion. Which some people felt would risk coercing women into abortions when they didn't really want them. But when the Court decided McRae, the case came out the other way. And then I realized that my perception of it had been altogether wrong."

Survey says: No one likes the French
A survey of hotel owners across the world concludes something that only the French would disbelieve: Most people think the French are by the far the rudest world travelers on earth..While some may think that the ugly American is the world's dumbest tourist, frantically taking photos and desperately searching for 'freedom' fries, 4500 seems to believe that the French are impolite, tight fisted, arrogant, and probably then bad tippers..
The study concludes that the French are pushy.. .. Penny-pinching..
France's defense? A marketing director in France said, "The French don't go abroad very much. We're lucky enough to have a country which is magnificent in terms of its landscape and culture".. 4500 hotel managers may wish that that rude tourists stay within the loving streets of Paris instead..

SCIENTISTS PONDER: DO MYSTERIOUS TREMORS DETECTED ON SAN ANDREAS FAULT MEAN AN INCREASED RISK OF MAJOR QUAKE?
Scientists have discovered a spike in underground rumblings on a section of California's San Andreas fault..
Scientists wondering if it means a major event may be coming with underground stress building along the fault line..
According to the AP:
"USGS seismologist Susan Hough found the latest observations intriguing, but said it's too soon to know what they mean.Scientists are also worried because the tremors are occuring on the section that produced a quake in 1857..
"We don't have enough data to know what the fault is doing in the long term," said Hough, who had no part in the research. "

1976 HERE WE COME: SWINE FLU VACCINES COULD BE GIVEN TO KIDS IN SCHOOLS IN OCTOBER..

Nonetheless, Barack Obama says the United States is trying to avert a crisis..
Vaccines for everyone? The government says it's prepping for a fall surge in the swine flu, the President warned of a resurgence in the gray days of autumn..
But there is renewed worry about whether the vaccine will work, and even some reports of Tamiflu-resistant H1N1..
A word of caution to those who forget history: A swine flu outbreak was a bust in the late 1970s.. and the vaccine turned out to have complications then even led to death.. The vaccine in 1976 triggered public outrage after the vaccines led to Guillain-Barré syndrome...

Opinion: The kids aren't alright.. because the adults made it that way..
MTV finally conquered the next generation: The class of 2013 is already becoming ruined .. images of perfect women with bouncing breasts grace television sets across the nation.. scenes of men with sculpted bodies equally broadcast for tweens and teens throughout the country.. bedroom by bedroom.. house by house. Midnight TV never looked so good--or so depression for kids that hate themselves.
USA TODAY reported recently that kids are now undergoing plastic surgery to alleviate the things "wrong" with them.. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports that 160,283 children 18 and under had cosmetic interventions in 2008...
USA TODAY also reports that it's not just kids that need the surgery that get it, but often kids that want it because they want the perfect look.. that MTV design. Perfection..
The story is a little frightening if you think back only a few decades ago to America in the 1930s.. Several states had eugenics laws in place to get rid of the "degenerates" of society.. Adolf Hitler wasn't the only one that wanted to displace and kill of races of people he felt imperfect.. The world saw a eugenics movement aimed that purifying the world from the underbelly of society.. the poor, the welfare recipients.. the lame of mind..
American kids are faced with a constant diet of Hollywood stars, caked with makeup and eyeliner. American kids are equally faced with thoughts of grief as they look at their imperfections in the mirror.. But their imperfections are not that at all, but instead .. their own look. Our species is amazing.. no one is the same. Not one person is completely alike..
But instead of being proud of our features, or marveling at the beauty of earth, they are busy searching for imperfections on their body.. busy looking for things "wrong" with them. And now it has filtered to the youth of America..
What's wrong with flat-chested cheerleaders? And what's so bad about boys having pimples at the age of 15..?
Kids are kids. It never was easy.. Looks are judged quickly in our society..
But instead of allowing kids to change their looks, shouldn't we strive to change the kids? Shouldn't we work to give children, preteens, and teens the understanding that looks aren't everything.. and they will whither away?
Sadly kids anymore won't know this.. until their own features, often given to them with the perfection of plastic surgery, whither into dust as their age creeps in..
The kids aren't alright. But that's because the adults make them that way..

D E A D M A L L S
The housing industry is still tanking.. may as well go to the mall--without stores! Malls from sea to shining sea are suffering during this Great Recession, job loss is leading to less shoppers gracing stores.. more stores shuttering.. less eateries.. more vacant spaces.. more malls trying to spruce up once filled aisles by placing ads in the empty spots.. A sad day when you think of malls of yesterday, busy and bustling with shoppers and kids..
According to the Associated Press, there are hundreds of empty "ghost boxes" throughout the country..
The International Council of Shopping Centers said 6,913 retail stores — of all types — announced closures last year, compared with 4,603 in 2007..
The days of busy Friday nights at the mall may be memories .. Wally World reaps the benefits. But no one else.

UK CREATES 'GREEN POLICE'.. ready to target companies, but what about dead animals and humans breathing?
The British Environment Agency is introducing big brother in a green sort of way.. The agency set up a police squad being labeled the boys in green.. They are set to police companies in the UK that emit excessive C02..
The agency is starting with about 50 employees.. they will have warrant cards and will be given the power to search companies they suspect of polluting earth.
According to the TIMES ONLINE,
"Decked out in green jackets, the enforcers will be able to demand access to company property, view power meters, call up electricity and gas bills and examine carbon-trading records for an estimated 6,000 British businesses. Ed Mitchell, head of business performance and regulation at the Environment Agency, said the squad would help to bring emissions under control. "Climate change and CO2 are the world’s biggest issues right now. The Carbon Reduction Commitment is one of the ways in which Britain is responding."
Yesterday, reports emerged that the world's rich are being targeted in carbon crackdown..
While the green police search companies in the UK, it's worth nothing other things on earth that emit carbon: Breathing, volcanoes, automobile exhausts, and animal decays.. Will the green police pick up roadkill? I don't think that's in their job description..

Smile: YOU ELSE.. your employer is watching..
Are you happy today?? Are you .. smiling?
Daily smile scans are being performed in Japan, according to reports in the UK TELEGRAPH..
More than 500 staff at Keihin Electric Express Railway are subjected to daily smile scans.. the purpose is to make sure they are happy to greet the public.
The story may cause you to .. smile.. but maybe it should spike fear.. The TELEGRAPH goes on to report,
"For those with a below-par grin, one of an array of smile-boosting messages will op up on the computer screen ranging from "you still look too serious" to "lift up your mouth corners", according to the Mainichi Daily News. A growing number of service industries are reportedly using the new Omron Smile Scan system for "smile training" among its staff."
The workers receive a daily smile printout. Employers expect them to be happy all day.

RECOVERY? ECONOMIC PROBLEMS CONTINUE AS CONSUMERS FALL BEHIND ON LOANS AT A RECORD PACE

Media and politicians have declared over the past month: We have hit bottom! Although Vice President Joe Biden said the Obama Administration underestimated how bad the economic conditions of the nation were (didn't he compare it to the Depression in the 2008 election cycle??), others have said that the bad times were soon over.. we hit bottom. We're on the way up. If "up" looks this bad, I'd hate to see down..
Unemployment in the United States continues to soar and it's proving to continue to batter the already hard-hit housing market. . The market so bad it's deteriorating at a record pace, according to the American Bankers Association. And I think bankers would know..
According to reporting from Reuters, payment delinquencies were the highest since the ABA began tracking the data in 1974. Late payments on home equity borrowings set records, rising to 3.52 percent from 3.03 percent on loans and to 1.89 percent from 1.46 percent on lines of credit..
The ABA concludes that the biggest factor in the consistently bad housing market is job loss.. and job loss shows little signs of easing over the next few months...

Stars and musicians, including Jermaine Jackson, performed live.. a live performance from Stevie Wonder rocked the house..

An estimated 1 billion people worldwide were estimated to be watching services for Jackson.. And it's not over yet: Another tribute memorial service is planned for August, according to Roger Friedman..
Meanwhile, the media circus surrounding Jackson's death may now die down itself.. Networks have gone wall-to-wall with coverage of the Jackson memorial as though it was another 9/11..
