LATEST GALLUP

...GALLUP GULPS:

LATEST NATIONAL TREND: MCCAIN CONTINUES TO GET SUPPORT FROM GIULIANI VOTERS..

CLINTON STAYS AHEAD OF BARACK OBAMA .. BUT BY THE OH SO SLIGHTEST OF MARGINS..

Winter storms across the globe

Phil saw his shadow today. According to the hog, six more weeks of winter. The Pennsylvania Polka played vibrantly as college kids and others young and old drank the morning away in Punxsutawney.

There is something appealing about Groundhog Day. It's ridiculous at the end, of course, but the tradition has continued so long you can ignore the foolishness of old men in top hats yanking a sleeping groundhog from the ground, pretending to chat with it in front of thousands of people.

My only hope: No one woke up this morning hearing Sonny and Cher's I GOT YOU BABE.

But while the groundhog did his job, real weather news across the world is getting headlines.

The Pacific Northwest of the United States yesterday, along with the Northeast, faced harsh winter storms.. Pennsylvania, New York, and other places along the East Coast had many and major traffic accidents as ice glazed roads during rush hour. Almost eight inches of snow fell from the same storm system in Chicago and other parts of the Midwest..

But the worst weather .. in the world .. is unfolding before our eyes in China. And another storm is coming..

The nation has faced some of the worst snowstorms in decades. According to forecasters, more is coming. The storms have damaged the Chinese economy, bringing life to a halt.. There have been several deaths due to the snow.. And now, chaos and crisis as China prepares for its Lunar new year holiday. The government warning citizens that they may not get to see their loved ones..

According to CNN:
"On Friday, heartbreaking video from the southern city of Guangzhou showed crowds of people -- many of them migrant workers --screaming, elbowing each other, in some cases sobbing and collapsing in the rush to get a slot on a train. Police battled to keep order in chaotic scenes in the capital of southern Guangdong province. One officer lifted a small child above the crowd as the child's mother clutched the officer's coat. A woman who fainted was carried over the mob to receive medical help."

MARKETING HEATH
Actor Heath Ledger is shown in an undated publicity photo as The Joker in Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures action drama The Dark Knight. Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment January 22, 2008, New York City police said.
(Warner Bros./Handout./Reuters) Since the sudden death of Heath Ledger, websites have been buzzing about how Warner Brothers will continue the viral marketing BATMAN DARK KNIGHT campaign online .. The marketing ploys have used JOKER symbolism and substance.. a jolt to the studio took place when news surfaced that Heath Ledger was discovered dead in his apartment in New York City days ago.

SLATE is reporting that a voice over artist may have to do some work in place of Ledger. The site reporting that there are several licensing agreements in place, but few of them involved Ledger.

According to SLATE, because of the intensity and dark features of the JOKER character in the DARK KNIGHT, cartoon images were being used to market to young children--this before Ledger's death.

The final question, only to be answered when BATMAN is released in the summer, is how fans across the world will react to the film, one that stars someone who tragically died young.

As far the rest of the DARK KNIGHT marketing campaign? Expect a lot of ELECT HARVEY DENT buttons and a lot more TWO FACE than originally anticipated..

A horrid day of war
People mourn their relatives killed in a suicide bombing in Baghdad, Iraq, Friday, Feb. 1, 2008. A pair of female suicide bombers blew themselves up Friday in two Baghdad pet markets, killing at least 64 people and wounding dozens, police said. The attacks were the deadliest in the Iraqi capital since 30,000 more American forces flooded into the center of the country last spring.
(AP Photo/Karim Kadim)Though one cannot expect terrorists to have standards, the news today from Iraq is no doubt shocking, disturbing, and sickening to humanity itself..

Al Qaida was able to convince mentally retarded women to become suicide bombers.. Down Syndrome now being exploited by terrorists..

More than 70 people died in Iraq when the handicapped women, unaware of what they were doing, walked into a crowded market in in Baghdad.

Militants turned disabled human beings into walking bombs.

Horrid, wretched news coming from Iraq today.. Hopefully not a new turning point. It's a low point beyond the stretch of imagination.. there is something more vicious in this than even kids being bombers in Vietnam..

These are the days that truly remind us all of the human struggle that is taking place before us.. No matter the opinion on Iraq, we must look at events like this and cry.

EVEN WITH ALL THE EXCITEMENT..

..it's still keeps seeming like it will be John McCain vs Hillary Clinton in November...

REUTERS PHOTO
THE 20TH CENTURY BOY...

..ROMNEY LOSES, GIULIANI DROPS, AND MCCAIN GETS ANOTHER ENDORSEMENT.. .. But will conservatives be happy? Will America be happy with 'more wars'?

TIME MAG blog reporting tonight that Giuliani endorses McCain tomorrow..

THE CLINTON PEOPLE: PURE EVIL GENIUS..

They're giving a victory celebration speech in Florida even with votes not counting..

Amazing.

I guess they're happy it's not South Carolina.

And she's lucky a lot of Democrats voted early..

Supporters of Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., wait for her arrival in Davie, Fla., Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008.
(AP Photo/Lynne Sladky)

BEWARE THE EXIT POLLS..

We have seen them crash before in Florida.. Exit polls, as they stand, seem to suggest a McCain 34 Romney 31 race..

Votes being counted.. Real numbers coming in..

WOW...

There are a few exit polls that suggest that Democrats who voted early went for Hillary.. People who voted today seemed to go for Obama.

Mrs. Clinton better watch how hard she brags about this victory..

NOT THAT IT MATTERS...But..

Hillary Clinton just won Florida.. It will be interesting if there is a disputed convention as to what exactly will happen with the Florida delegates..

AP Photo/Gerald Herbert
END OF THE ROAD...

A WHOLE LOT OF NOTHIN'..

Years and years of Giuliani the hero on TV for us all to see..

His slippery and slurring words .. spit all over microphones..

And it's all over tonight.

He put high hopes in Florida.. Dashed when voters went to the polling places.

The hero of 9/11 (not according to many firefighters) loses big. Even a lot of votes don't matter tonight.. He was beaten by Ron Paul in several states.. He put his money in the Sunshine state. And it's cloudy over Giuliani headquarters tonight..

EARLY NUMBERS

...VERY EARLY NUMBERS IN FLORIDA SHOW ONLY A FEW HUNDRED VOTES SEPARATING ROMNEY AND MCCAIN -- WITH ONLY 1% OF THE VOTE BEING REPORTED...

FLORIDA EXIT POLLS

  • ECONOMY LEADS IRAQ AS MAJOR ISSUE..
  • MANY REPUBLICAN VOTERS ARE STILL SATISFIED WITH BUSH

Mixed messages.. Economy result would help Romney. Bush assessment from voters would seem to help McCain.. Some polls in Florida closed.. still others in the Central Time Zone open..

  • DEVELOPING STORY: AIR FORCE GENERAL SAYS THAT SPY SATELLITE COULD HIT THE UNITED STATES!

YOUR TURN FLORIDA * * * WHO WILL IT BE?
Republican race is winner take all.. Decmorats (for now) don't matter since the state was stripped of delegates. Those delegates may matter at a disputed Democratic Convention.. Voting problems being reported in Florida.. Romney, McCain close. .Giuliani may have to soon decide whether he will quit.. According to exit polls: Those voting today are older than primary voters in any other state .. Some exit polling showing McCain with slightest of leads..

President Bush delivers the final State of the Union address of his presidency to a joint session of Congress in front of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Vice President Dick Cheney (L) at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington January 28, 2008
(Jim Young/Reuters)
THE STATE OF A PRESIDENCY, 2008
Full text of the State of the Union speech.. A President stands before the nation, a state of a union.. a nation yearning for change. A nation that seems to have had enough with the leadership since Katrina and Iraq went foul.. When's the check coming? Will you end the war? Best line: "We have other work to do on taxes. Unless the Congress acts, most of the tax relief we have delivered over the past 7 years will be taken away. Some in Washington argue that letting tax relief expire is not a tax increase. Try explaining that to 116 million American taxpayers who would see their taxes rise by an average of $1,800. Others have said they would personally be happy to pay higher taxes. I welcome their enthusiasm, and I am pleased to report that the IRS accepts both checks and money orders." First lady in red.. Will she be on stage next year? .. Or him? * * * * HUFFINGTON POST live blog..

    The Sunday Morning Sidewalk

Was that history last night? Bill Clinton, in yet one last racial over toned comment, said Jesse Jackson also won in South Carolina.. I guess he thinks Obama is just another minority that is doomed to lose to the all powerful Clinton machine. Which is exactly why I hope the machine is out of energy, power, oil, or whatever evil soulless power it runs on. Pat Buchanan was on MSNBC almost screaming at Joe Scarborough last night proclaiming that he felt everyone last night 'drank the cool aid'.. Is Pat Buchanan right? Watch this speech and dream. Is everyone just dreaming and starry eyed? Not sure.. But your viewing pleasures, the Sunday morning random rakings submitted for you starry eyed and historic approval: John Gibson: The Schmuckraker Schmuck of the week Frank Rich talks about the "Billary" road to GOP victory.. I'm still worried about this disabled spy satellite.. Where will it fall? Christian Brando, 49, troubled son or Marlon Brando, died from pneumonia at Los Angeles hospital.. NEWSWEEK magazine talks about the road to recession.. Luckily, according to my local newspaper this morning, the county I live in may be sheltered from a recession .. that's because the county I live in is in a constant recession.. Bush's favorite painting turns out to be a criminal fleeing the law..
