And again. Grow you're own in '08! MORE: New Era Canning Company said it was recalling 171 cases of GFS Fancy Blue Lake Cut Green Beans with the lot code 19H7FL. Each case contained six cans in 6-pound, 5-ounce sizes..

..still finding it hard to believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve Eve. Expect Christmas songs on here.. You Tubing my feelings to the world.. credit you. But this year you're not TIME's person of the year. They went a different direction. Now that You're not important. After all, you're providing videos of the greatest Christmas songs of all time..

December 22, 2007: The last mad rush

I knew Christmas was coming, I really did. I kept saying I'd get that spirit any day now. Really. I swore.

And now today, just looked at the calender and my eyes almost popped out of my head. Times goes by so fast. When you're not paying attention, it goes by faster, almost an insult. Or maybe a message. Notice as you get older Christmas gets different? Of course you noticed. But when you really stop and take a glance at how it changes, it's amazing. One thing of note this year .. I did shopping. My wallet and credit card both know full well that Christmas is only hours away .. While I was shopping I saw those people with the signs of desperation on their faces. The desperate shoppers that can't find what they want to get someone.. The looks of confusion as they pace back and forth in aisles, almost like the clerk will rush over and place in front of them the perfect gift. That never quite happens. What does happen, instead, is the customer's end result being a giant overblown item stuffed into their mini-van or SUV ready for the drive home. Only to get there and wonder aloud to themselves, why in the hell did I buy this crap? Junk yards across America filled with those items of yesteryear. The shopping experiences puts me in a Christmas mood--unless I can't find items that people want. I won't just buy to buy .. I want to have the right thing for the right person. When I think about it while standing in the checkout lane, I ponder about the existence of this holiday.. how centuries of Christians and Pagans led to a story of Jesus being born on December 25 under a giant star with oxen and snow coming down. Well, the snow was coming down, the oxen were just there. The story is nice. But probably not factual. Many experts, even those of religious context, would agree that Jesus was probably born in the summer, the Magi probably didn't bring 'gifts' for a few years, and there was probably no snow. But that ruins the story. And anyway, a lot of people think the 21st Century meaning of Christmas is Josh Grobin's album or Celine Dion's new album. Minus the air guitar ..

I actually don't mind the inaccuracies of the Christmas story. It's nice to have something at the end of a year to look forward to. It's the wrap up to times gone by, whether they were good or bad. I don't care that no oxen or goats surrounded Jesus when he first came into an Earthly presence. It's good to have Christmas before New Years, too. It's the final bow to the year. The last blow in the family. The final dinner... a joyous time. But not for all. Millions of people wake up alone Christmas day and go back to sleep in the same state at night. It's just another day to them. And for those who have nothing, it's a struggle to find the meaning of Christmas.. And if Jesus wasn't born in December and Americans just care about material possessions, what is the meaning anyway!? Linus, you need to help us.. The meaning of Christmas is most likely kindness.. Generosity. Who will be there for others when they need help the most. Who will drop a few coins into a Salvation Army tin? Who will volunteer.. who will help with words, actions, or prayers? A lot of people. Even those that care about material possessions can also care about their fellow man.. For all the bad in the world... for all the negative.. for all the evil.. there is good. There are positive things happening. For all the war, there is peace within humans. I'm reminded of my childhood.. getting ready for Christmas Eve mass and then dinner at my grandmother's house for the "Holy Supper" which consists of fish with no dairy or butter----we've added the butter since her passing. I am reminded of seeing cheesy decorations; luckily my parents never were cheesy with their decor on holidays. I am reminded of laughter, my childlike awe of the whole night. I am reminded of a few warm and a few cold Christmases. Some dry, some snow. My mother's perfume, my dad's cologne. Yes, this was big. The biggest day of the year for kids and adults. I am reminded of the year both my sister and I had a horrible flu and were stricken to the bed for Christmas day.. And now, I am reminded of Christmases watching younger members of my family grow to find their own memories.. I am fully aware that years from now I will remember 2007 and a wonderful first Christmas being married.. Here's to life. And Christmas present. And futures, since the past can't be changed now anyway. And here's to a Christmas filled with happy memories.. Here's to the lonely.. And even though Jesus never did get birthed next to an oxen in a snowstorm, Christmas is three days away. Shop til you drop. Or just drop the shop and find the real meaning of it all: Love, family, and friends. -Bryan Smolock Schmuckraker.blogspot.com December 22, 2007

The most frightening Christmas photo ever seen..

It's though it's from a horror movie. Rudy Giuliani, featured today on the AP news wire, literally in an unflattering light.. The photo conveys a sense that this man is a boogieman of candidates.. the harsh tones of the blue light along with the snapshot of a crazed looking face denotes fear and anxiety.. Giuliani was released from the hospital after suffering 'flu-like' symptoms.. The photo from the AP wire tonight can make everyone else sick with fear. A blue Christmas.

PUTIN CHOSEN AS TIME'S PERSON

Vladimir Putin as the person of the year .. TIME magazine chooses him over Al Gore and other contenders..

TIME's reasoning: TIME's Person of the Year is not and never has been an honor. It is not an endorsement. It is not a popularity contest. At its best, it is a clear-eyed recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful individuals and forces shaping that world-for better or for worse. It is ultimately about leadership-bold, earth-changing leadership. Putin is not a boy scout. He is not a democrat in any way that the West would define it. He is not a paragon of free speech. He stands, above all, for stability-stability before freedom, stability before choice, stability in a country that has hardly seen it for a hundred years. Whether he becomes more like the man for whom his grandfather prepared blinis-who himself was twice TIME's Person of the Year-or like Peter the Great, the historical figure he most admires; whether he proves to be a reformer or an autocrat who takes Russia back to an era of repression-this we will know only over the next decade. At significant cost to the principles and ideas that free nations prize, he has performed an extraordinary feat of leadership in imposing stability on a nation that has rarely known it and brought Russia back to the table of world power. For that reason, Vladimir Putin is TIME's 2007 Person of the Year.
A very interesting.. very surprising choice by TIME mag this morning

ANDREW SULLIVAN ENDORSES RON PAUL

To me this is big: Andrew Sullivan endorses Ron Paul for Republican nomination..

According to Sullivan: "The great forgotten principles of the current Republican party are freedom and toleration. Paul's federalism, his deep suspicion of Washington power, his resistance to government spending, debt and inflation, his ability to grasp that not all human problems are soluble, least of all by government: these are principles that made me a conservative in the first place. No one in the current field articulates them as clearly and understands them as deeply as Paul. He is a man of faith who nonetheless sees a clear line between religion and politics. More than all this, he has somehow ignited a new movement of those who love freedom and want to rescue it from the do-gooding bromides of the left and the Christianist meddling of the right. The Paulites' enthusiasm for liberty, their unapologetic defense of core conservative principles, their awareness that in the new millennium, these principles of small government, self-reliance, cultural pluralism, and a humble foreign policy are more necessary than ever - no lover of liberty can stand by and not join them.

"He's the real thing in a world of fakes and frauds. And in a primary campaign where the very future of conservatism is at stake, that cannot be ignored. In fact, it demands support. Go Ron Paul!"

Wow. Wow....

Later Sullivan joked he cannnot getting this much email love..

Their next challenge is to make me fearless

Creation of "fearless" mice has caused me to grow a bit more fearful of our future. Is this the point of science? To manipulate creatures to change their mental psyches? First they gave us the glowing cats of Korea.. and now this! Japanese scientists have "developed" fearless mice..The study and experimentation of mice shows that with genetic removal of nasal cells, they don't smell cats, and have no fear... I suppose in one regard, this type of research is interesting and helpful. It's interesting to see that mice aren't afraid of cats simply because cats prey on them, but instead because of reasons more genetic and in nature. But are the future attempts by scientists going to stop us from being afraid of new jobs? New schools? Brussel sprouts? How far should science go in examining fear and lessening it in society? This brings up the notion of a "BRAVE NEW WORLD" future for me every time I see stories. I can foresee a vision in which people pop a pill or get a vaccine for each and every thing that can be wrong with them. Some would argue that if the pills and needles world what would be wrong with that future.. I can't argue with them. Reason being is because of how wrong I can see that future being. I can't even begin to demonstrate my feeling of how reckless humanity can be if we go down a path where we think we can create our life.. Instead of just living within a creation as we should. Sorry to get serious. But those neon cats just scare me..

Pettitte: I used them
The Mitchell report begins to hit home perhaps? Andy Pettitte admits that he used HGH on two occasions.. but not to enhance his performance .. Instead, he said, it was to help recover from an elbow injury. I wish there would have been at least one report issued about all the management and executives of baseball that let this crap go on for years only to ruin the sport. They wanted their short-term gain of popularity and money while the long term phsyce of baseball was about to suffer for good.. They rewarded players not for average skill but above average drug-induced muscles and power hitting. The list that was released days ago neglects this fact. It neglects to publicize the real villains in this chess match of drug enhanced sports: The management and top brass that let it fester and live underneath the seams of baseball for years.
