The coming death of the Caped Crusader

Blogs are buzzing and sites are streaming with news that is rocking the net world--more like comic gossip world, but this one could hit home to a more diverse audience.. D.C. Comics killed SUPERMAN already, and now there are rumors buzzing that BATMAN may be next. The rumor, first reported in a column on COMICBOOKRESOURCES.COM by Rich Johnson, has slowly been picking up steam and credibility online.. The theory behind D.C. Comics' possible kill of the long-time hero is to make him a God .. literally. .Yet again, another comic book site with another rumor of D.C. Comics bringing back dead heroes as super Gods with powers that are needed during the Fourth World War. A world without a Batman.. Maybe. Rumors sometimes prove true.

Profits from "bitch"

As pointed out by a comment on an earlier posting, the John McCain "bitch" clip on You Tube is turning into a rallying cry for some anti-Hillary Clinton conservatives.. More from the the New York TIMES.. Is this really the best way to beat Hillary? Energize an entire gender against one side?? Do not think that Hillary Clinton will not get female conservatives to switch to her side specifically for this "bitch" flap..

Reader response to polar bear link

A featured link is a story from the UK TIMES ONLINE concerning the amount of polar bears that existed in 1950..

A reader responds:
there were less polar bears in the 50's because there were no laws protecting them from hunting - after the US intitiated the marine mammal protection act in 1972, the numbers began to rise again they aren't currently endangered but they most likely will be in due to changes in their habitat linked to (human influenced) climate change http://online.wsj.com/public/article_print/SB113452435089621905-vnekw47PQGtDyf3iv5XEN71_o5I_20061214.html http://www.un.org/works/environment/animalplanet/polarbear.html http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/swcbd/species/polarbear/index.html don't think that you can pass try to subtly pass off some of your anti-global warming trash w/o me noticing!
Well spoken and factually correct.

But I do take issue with the "anti-global warming trash" condemnation..

Major story developing: Regan says News Corp official wanted her to lie

Major story developing in New York TIMES..

How will it effect Guiliani?

'MCCAIN BITCH VIDEO'

Watch and wince...

And wonder aloud why McCain even responded.

Beam me down

I didn't mention this the other day, but Nineteen former pilots are asking the government to intensify investigations of UFOS, calling the reports a national security concern ..

Incidently, I also didn't mention my opinion on the words of Presidential Candidate Dennis Kuncinich, who said he saw a UFO. It's amazing that the media claims they yearn for honest politicians--but the moment they get someone like Kucinich or Ron Paul, they immediately slam them as "third tier" and "fringe" candidates..

Pleased to meat you

Target Corp is seeking government approval to put consumer warning to labels of meat treated with carbon monoxide to keep it looking red and fresh..

This follows other chains actions in their choice to stop selling meat treated with carbon monoxide...

The Food and Drug Administration deemed the gas safe.

The gas forces meat to stay pink longer--making it look fresher than it really sometimes is.

Like the days of the Muckrakers, meat is the newest focus on Capitol Hill: Hearings today over freshness and recalls..

And they think we're falling behind..

Infant deaths .. not so good. Education system. Also not that great..

But Americans are exceling at something else: Sexually transmitted diseases..

The land of the free and the home of the brave are also the land of the unprotected and home of disease..

As the Associated Press tells us today, more than 1 million cases of chlamydia were reported in the United States last year ... Gonorrhea rates are jumping again after hitting a record low.. The rate of congenital syphilis rose for the first time in 15 years.

More from the AP
Chlamydia is the most common. Nearly 1,031,000 cases were reported last year, up from 976,000 the year before. The count broke the single-year record for reported cases of a sexually transmitted disease, which was 1,013,436 cases of gonorrhea, set in 1978. Putting those numbers into rates, there were about 349 cases of chlamydia per 100,000 people in 2006, up 5.6 percent from the 329 per 100,000 rate in 2005. CDC officials say the chlamydia record may not be all bad news: They think the higher number is largely a result of better and more intensive screening."

More intensive screening.. Or more STDs.. you be the judge.

God Bless America. Or save it.

Bush on Iraq .. 1997

Story making it way across the world wide web today about then non-President Bush being against an Iraqi invasion has caused a firestorm of publicity and an official White House response.. Bush, in 1997, told the San Antonio Express-News,
"Well, I'm confident that losing men and women as a result of sniper fire inside of Baghdad would have turned the tide of public opinion very quickly."
The words being explained by the White House:
The world has changed since 1997," White House spokesman Blair Jones said Friday. "Since that time this nation experienced one of the most horrific moments in our history — the attacks on September 11, 2001. As the president has said many times, one of the lessons learned from that day is that we have to take emerging threats seriously. We have to deal with them before they fully materialize."
September 11 did change a lot. But not politics. These words coming back to haunt President Bush .. 10 Veterans Days later.

THIS is a candidate

After watching a video like this (and reading those pesky little articles about the Clinton camp planting fake questioners in her audiences of 'open forums') you can see why Hillary Clinton may have suddenly taken a nose dive in polls...

Suddenly Superstar Obama hit Hillary hard:
"When I am this party’s nominee, my opponent will not be able to say that I voted for the war in Iraq ... And he will not be able to say that I waivered on something as fundamental as whether it is okay for America to torture because it is never okay. That's why I’m in it!
"I don't want to spend the next year or the next four years refighting the same fights that we had in the 1990s. I don’t want to pit red America against blue America. I want to be the President of the United States of America.
"

Suddenly, his brighter rhetoric puts him fiercely at odds with Hillary Clinton..He has brought excitement to the campaign.. with this speech. He makes it look easy to go against Rudy Guiliani.. Will this change it all?

And perhaps a photo speaks a thousand words:

Ok, I was critical of the MSNBC redesign and spoke about my own site in the process. I therefore have to thank whoever left this message expressing their shock and bewilderment at the size of my new logo and the confusion the page brought out. I hope your hallucination didn't continue long..

Nonetheless.. I am using my backup template I came up with. Much simpler.. easier on the eyes. Not sure how long this will be the design. Depends on reaction.. or lack theirof. If no one comments that the site threw them into a seizure I think I'll keep checkers...

Myspace is yourspace is theirspace

A phishing scam is infiltrating Myspace.com .. It begins as a Macy's Christmas gift card scheme.. it ends with the phisher stealing the member's indentity and information..

"In fact, to lead the younger members on, the ads are written in "kids-speak." One such posting starts off by telling the victim, "Hey dude, check it out! You ain't gunna believe this!" "

Hey dude. The net can be a scary place.. Just this week, TIME magazine sent me an email asking me to subscribe to them again. Now that is scary.

Disparity among the races

According to latest statistics (2004 numbers) babies born to black mothers died at two and a half times the rate of those born to white mothers, according to the CDC figures...

This information comes from what should shock all Americans: The United States is among the worst for infant deaths ..

I could be worst. In some countries, it is: From NEWSWEEK:
"Not surprisingly, the picture is far bleaker in poorer countries, particularly in Africa. A 2005 World Health Organization report found infant mortality rates as high as 144 per 1,000 births _ more than 20 times the U.S. rate _ in Liberia."
