ABC on the "Summer of 07 Threat"
This story by Brian Ross was filed before tonight's AP and NEWSWEEK combo on Al Qaida gaining strength.. and maybe the impact is even heavier now..
Ross reports on ABC NEWS' THE BLOTTER
Senior law enforcement officials said today that the growing signs of a "Summer of '07" terror attack on the U.S. have led the FBI to dispatch dozens of agents to track down new leads across the country.
The report goes on to say: "Although the White House says there is no credible, imminent threat to the United States, the origin of the intelligence that a small group of al Qaeda terrorists was headed to the United States came from a credible intelligence source, who in the past has been reliable, officials said."
Yesterday, Homeland Security Head Michael Chertoff said he had a gut feeling that Al Qaida was strong again, saying his assessment is that terrorists like the summer for strikes and things are eerily similar to how they were before 9/11..
The White House downplayed the comments..
But today the AP is reporting that Al Qaida is now back to it's 2001 capabilities!
Chertoff said summertime is an appealing time of increased risk..
A period of "increased vulnerability"..
Chertoff even said sorry today, stating he didn't want to alarm anyone..
However, as more information from AP comes out, it looks like the intelligence community has chattering about the increased chatter..
NEWSWEEK magazine expands on the AP story, saying that government analysts are concerned about an increased rise in Al Qaida strength and that the terror group is growing bigger..

FURLOUGH ! !
GOVERNOR RENDELL ANNOUNCED TONIGHT AT A LATE NEWS CONFERENCE THAT THERE WAS NO BUDGET AGREEMENT, AND MORE THAN 24,000 'NON ESSENTIAL' STATE WORKERS WOULD BE FURLOUGHED .. HE STRESSED THAT HE HOPED IT WOULD BE A ONE DAY FURLOUGH... DEVELOPING..
Thousands of people have landed. Real people. Humans, not humanoids--at least we don't think they are..
Laughing and kidding aside--because there is no better joke in today's high-nosed media than people who believe aliens crashed and the government covered it up--there is a giant convention this weekend in Roswell, New Mexico to mark the 60th anniversary of the supposed UFO crash..
There are products, customers, concerts, talks and discussions, debates, and wandering imaginations.. What did happen here 60 years ago.. Did something crash? Did the government perform autopsies on alien life forms?
In July of 1947, the government claimed that a flying saucer was recovered from a crash and quickly changed the story to a weather balloon making the crash landing.. However, there was immediate confusion at the time about what exactly did crash, and there has been continued assertions and allegations about the truth behind the incident--and incident during the prime time of Cold War secrecy.
Suspicions of something strange amplified only this past week with a deathbed confession of Lieutenant Walter Haut .. Haut was a PR officer in '47 and was the man that issued the press releases after the incident. Text released of a sworn affidavit described seeing not only a crash--but also alien bodies.
So let the skeptics and believers continue the long-standing tradition of debate: What happened 60 years ago..
Maybe a short quote from Ronald Reagan can help in the quest for truth:
The Governor will decide if a budget is close enough to allow state workers to report to duty tomorrow, or instead shut down parks, casinos, and furlough over 24,000 state workers until a budget is passed.. Developing..
PA state worker bonuses delayed for some state employed-nurses.
The union and management agreed that this year's contract would bring a bonus for state workers as opposed to a percentage increase.. But some state workers in Pennsylvania have already received this email:
"It is with regret that I inform you that there will be a delay in receiving your Signing Bonus. I was just informed this morning that due to administrative issues between the State and SEIU [in this case SEIU nurses union], the disbursement of the bonus will be delayed until some point in the future."
