Saturday night boredom..

Just a few songs for the long night thanks to You Tube..

Worries over terror have promted Great Britain to raise their terror alert to "critical" meaning there is an "imminent" terror attack.. While the three attempts at terror failed--two car bombs that never went off yesterday and the flaming SUV attack in Scotland--it's clear that authorities have a belief that another attempt is on its way.. a concert to mark the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana's death tomorrow is scheduled--and scores of authorities are also scheduled to be there to patrol..

Prime Minister Brown told Brits to remain strong..

And more from the THE INDEPENDENT:
""The danger here is that we are entering the era of the car bomb," said an intelligence source. "In the past, al-Qa'ida-style terrorists have used high-explosive bombs aimed at symbolic, high-profile targets," he said, but that might have changed out of necessity. "It's easy to make a gas and nail car bomb without raising suspicion."

Gay pride meets terror

Police out in full force at London gay pride parade...

Life will go on tomorrow, too: Restaurants are open, clubbers are clubbing, and Wimbelton is playing tennis.. and the concert for Princess Diana is going on tomorrow as scheduled..

An early test for a new Prime Minister

Gordon Brown: An early test for a new leader..

Linked to London..

Though the attack failed at Glasgow--as well as attempts in London--new fears that further are coming in UK.. United States has increased its security at all major airports..

The White House will not raise overall terror threat in United States

..various sources reporting that the Bush Administration do not believe that terror attacks in the UK are a part of mastermind-type plan from Al Qaida.. developing story..

X X X "TERROR ATTACKS IMMINENT" X X X
England raises security level to "critical"

It's the highest alert level in Britain.. Today's flaming car attack in Scotland pushes UK authorities to begin to seriously consider that further attacks are on their way..

Europe now on edge..

First it was just London.. police yesterday diffused two car bombs before they exploded .. Today a flaming car drove into Glasgow airport .. Gordon Brown took office this week as the new Prime Minister of England. He is being tested early..

Novak says Newt will wait until the fall

It's really not news, Newt Gingrich has given out enough hints and suggestions without reporting from "insiders" like Bob Novak.. but the reporter reports today that Newt will see how good or bad Fred Thompson does as a candidate before he considers jumping into the race..

Fred Thompson, of course, of THUNDERHEART, DAYS OF THUNDER, BABY'S DAY OUT fame.. oh yea, and he was a Senator.

A rat makes it big

..The restaurant animated family flick RATATOUILLE makes it big in weekend box..

Al, it confused me too..

And interesting few moments from the other night's debate (one of about 3987987 before the election apparently).. Joe Biden announcing both he and Barack Obama have been tested for AIDS..

The face on Al Sharpton after the clip is priceless. I share his amazement and baffled confusion at the whole scene..

By the way, Obama does clear up why exactly he was tested for AIDS..

Moon mind games

The moon will be bigger on Saturday night. At least that's what you will think.

MORE:
SPACE.COM REPORTS ON HOW: "Our brains think things on the horizon are farther away than stuff overhead, because we're used to seeing overhead clouds that are close compared to those on the horizon. In the mind's eye, the sky is a flattened dome. With this dome as a reference, we expect something on the horizon (such as the moon) to be father, and because it is actually no farther than when overhead, our brains goof and imagine that it is larger"

A reporter stands up

God bless America and freedom of speech.. A TV news reporter stands up against executives and does NOT report the Paris Hilton story..

Iraq and death and terror.. but Paris has dominated the news across the country for the past weeks.

ENOUGH!

And It's finally time someone did stand up and stop the insanity..

Tries burning.. ripping .. shredding.. but the network keeps giving back the paper to MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski to do the story again.. and LEAD with it..

Mika decides that Senator Richard Lugar calling for a change in course in Iraq was more newsworthy. How right she was.

The Schmuckraker non-schmuck of the week award for Mika..

No jokes..

The inmate that said he would tell a joke before being executed.. surprise .. doesn't tell a joke before being executed..

Maybe it's the fac the was actually being executed............

Another tragic ending..

This time it's not fake. Chris Benoit is dead. And before he died, he may have killed his wife and kids..

Another tragic chapter in the endless tragic book of professional wrestling deaths..

The possible murder-suicide making national attention today..

Last night--before the news of the murder-suicide broke--Monday Night RAW aired a tribute homage to Benoit for his professional wrestling accomplishments..

The news today turned dark..

As details emerged, it became more apparent that this death was possibly from a steroids link..

Police are investigating.. but it's clear: This is not the first tragic death from a Wrestling star.. and won't be the last.

The hot dog guy

We've all seen him on TV... heard about him.. watched him scarf down endless amounts of hot dogs.. Impossible to fathom how he could digest such slop and still be ok to open his mouth and smile..

Until...

A set-back for Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi ..

A jaw injury from rigourous training...

It's hot dogs. Is it really worth this?

Everyone is really angry..

..and it's because there are foreigners here! Oh my!

Wash the veggies.. and the fruit!

Seriously, is this a false panic? Illegal immigration has continued for decades.. the Senate is about to vote on the Bush "amnesty" that is not amnesty bill..This whole thing should be fun.

Conservatives are turning on the President while liberals in favor. Tables turned..

A parade of believe it or nots..

..on display at Times Square (and no, no the random people on sidewalks).. this is Ripley's Believe it or Not! Odditorium grand opening.. And what a grand opening it was.. The cat man.. ahhhh. that's love.

Summer shocker

Padres pitcher Rod Beck found dead in his home at 38..

Photos of Dick Cheney

Is it me or is the AP/REUTERS PHOTO WIRE putting more and more frightening photos of Dick Cheney on than usual. I mean, the guy is chilling, no doubt, but lately they seem to have gotten worse. Maybe it's just me.

But even in the photo above, a lovely boquet of roses can't even make the Vice President look friendlier...

HEAT WAVE ! ! !

It's coming.

Today was nice. Schmuckraker home base was about 80 degrees. I'm making a turkey, so the house it hot. Enough of my broadcasting my personal business to the world, that's what happens on You Tube after all..

The forecast is damn hot for next week. Those 90s, I bet, will easily turn into hundreds..

I am not one to complain (umm hmm) but the 100s are disgusting beyond my wildest imagination. Completely and absolutely sickening. The sweat drips off of me.. I think I have a problem. I've been advised that I can do as Hollywood stars do and get my pores surgically closed.. but maybe that would make more of a problem.

New blog..

My love of restaurants. It comes and goes. EITHER WAY, trying a new blog out. Not sure how long it will continue. Hell, maybe it won't.. nonetheless, give it a skim. I will try to update it as much as possible.

Which won't be much is I take a cue from how many times I've updated this site lately. Hopefully more will be on here content wise from now on. It's been crazy busy. The site's called Soup on my Fly..

..the poster..

Forgot to link the poster of the new film in the last post. It's not bad, really. Though I think the movie will flop and flounder at the box, the poster itself is pretty creative. The long-haired Myers looks more like Rob Zombie than the killer we've come to know, though.

Halloween.. the remake.. re-imagineing.. re-imaging.. whatever..

Ok, ok.. Lots of people are talking a lot on the net about Rob Zombie's soon to be released remake of the original John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN.. Dimension Films setting up an official website with the original music accompanied by a dark heavy metal-like gashing sound of a knife.. the music on the site slightly altered. It's sounds more like it's being played by a child's piano instead of the real piano used for the original movie. But that was, of course, so last century.

Knowing "Mr." Zombie the way we do, I am sure there's much more gore than the original. How could there not.

When the original film was released, its cultural impact as quick. It stuck around. It's still played on TV networks around Halloween every year. The music is still known by adults and kids alike..

But what to make of Zombie's ...?

No one knows yet. But reading spoilers from people that saw the film, it's pretty weird. Good thing is, of course, at least according to the spoilers, the masturbation scene is gone.

Thank God.

Thank Zombie, maybe more like it.

This movie is useless in the long scheme of things. There's truly no rhyme or reason for it to have been made .. with of course the constant obsession by Dimension Films to score big with a horror movie.

Horror's appeal is dying lately.. Maybe there's more horror on the regular TV news than on the box office screans. I suppose why pay when it's for free?

Regardless of whether or not the movie has a point, it will go through the normal process: release.. bad reviews.. quick stint in the theater, and life on DVD for the hard-core Zombie fans.

Which is why it's even more pointless. Who exactly is Dimension trying to reach?

The broad appeal of the original was that it was tame gore-wise but scary as hell. Even today, there's still a chilling appeal to it simplicity. .. I don't think Zombie will work that same approach into his re-imagining of the storyline.

As far as horror itself? The genre dying its painful slow death? It will come back again.. It's like professional wrestling. It lays low for a while until a new generation comes around and eats it up like candy. Horror will be re-born. But with the state of affairs in the genre, it's hiatus of popularity is coming at a good time. The Halloween remake is therefore coming at the wrong time: A time when horror is not paid much attention to...

or........ maybe it's just movies in general. Box office experts predicted a huge weekend opening for summer fun film EVAN ALMIGHTY. It was slammed by critics.. and people, the ones that actually PAY for the film, didn't really go in the big mass numbers that the makers of the movie thought.

But in the end, from the rumors I've read, the screenings of HALLOWEEN hasn't been great. The hardcore fans love it.. the rest of us? Not so much.

Time will tell. But my prediction is this and will remain this: In five years, the networks will air HALLOWEEN on TV just like they do now... but it will remain the original Carpenter version. The Zombie fans will have go to Blockbuster....
