THANKSGIVING 2006
The luckiest nation on earth celebrates Thanksgiving 2006. As a people, we will give thanks for the family that joins us at dinner tables across the country.. Shelters will provide free dinners to those that do not have as much luck as others...
We are a beautiful and honest country.. People shaped by strong morals and love of neighbors. Bad press existed since the dawn of the nation and still does today... But if you really stop and look, you can see honesty, courage, and true American red white and blue blood flowing as strong today as it ever did...
The American fighting force across the world celebrates their holiday, too. Thanksgiving is taken with them to different lands... Iraq is as dangerous as it has ever been. There are real worries.. There are also real families struggling to celebrate Thanksgiving without their brave men and women sitting at the table...
I spoke to someone who has a daughter in the Army. She is in Iraq now, as has been for months. He told me that they leave an open spot at the table and put her favorite stuffed animal in the chair... I didn't expect the sheer honesty he gave me on the elevator at work, but he also told me that even if something terrible happens to her in Iraq, they will still continue to keep that same open chair vacant in honor of her courage and hard work..
We have so much in this country to truly be thankful for. Even when our cars don't start, we have cars...even when our food is cold we have microwaves.. Even when the service at our restaurants is slow we have the ways and means to go to restaurants...
Even when our families make us angry, we have families.. We have love in our lives. We have beauty all around us.
Give thanks, America. And if you see someone who doesn't have much to give thanks for, give them a reason to give thanks.
We are a strong and helpful nation. And I believe that we will only get stronger as we flow throuh the river of history.
