Excitement is brewing for WAR OF THE WORLDS...trailers being watched worldwide now, previews online, the online chattering class message boarding and spamming and slamming rumors and secrets of the Steven Spielberg Tom Cruise megafilm...
But what about the other world war? It seems to be lost...
In a press release issued by Pendragon Pictures, it is now revealed, and not surprisingly, that their version of the HG Wells classic has been pushed back from this month until April...
This long long after when the WAR was first originally supposed to be revealed..
The push back is due entirely to production," director Tim Hines opines... "I've worked for seven year on
this film and as the release deadline approached I was
faced with a very simple choice, rush the picture or
push the release date back and do the movie right."
Hines continues in the Pendragon issued press release: "This was
absolutely the right thing to do. My picture, H.G.
WELLS' THE WAR OF THE WORLDS is an epic with thousands
of special effects. It would have been absurd to cut
scenes or rush effects when the movie was so close to
completion. The thousands of fan letters that pour in
every week reflect that this decision is correct and in
the end it was the only way to go. Nobody remembers
that some episodes of STAR WARS have been up to a year
late, that Francis Ford Coppola, Kubrick and many other
directors have routinely missed deadliness to get their
picture right. H.G. WELLS' THE WAR OF THE WORLDS is all
we hoped it would be and more."
The press release also mentions rumors floating about Hines vs Spielberg: While director Hines' WAR will not exceed any other film at the box office, that hasn't stopped some from gossip. The chattering class, again, says George Lucas of STAR WARS, angry at SpielbergCruise's WAR eating some of EPISODE III's box office profits, financed Timothy Hines...
While disproven, the press release, interestingly enough, mentions the existence of the rumors...following earlier non-comment comments on Tom Cruise..
Hines will try, it's a labor of love. Spielberg won't, it's a given. And the war will be fought in vain.
